Book Launch at Niles Library

Brenda Walker Beadenkopf’s book launch and signing for A  Quaker Behind the Dream: Charlie Walker and the Civil Rights Movement, Volume 1 1920-1955, was held at the Niles District Library October 29, where the local author, speaker and workshop leader told about the inspiring true story of her father, a trainer and organizer in nonviolent direct action and his involvement and correspondence with Martin Luther King.

While she illuminated the beginnings of the Civil Rights organizations her father helped found and/or develop:  CORE, SCLC and SNCC, she told the amazing story of Martin Luther King’s commitment to and passion for nonviolent direct action, originating with an event in 1949 near Philadelphia that Charlie Walker organized!

The book would be a great gift for the history buff in your family, and is available for $20 either from the author herself, or online at Amazon. and QuakerBooks in Philadelphia.
